Our Annual Launch Party is at the Anchor Inn Hotel on Saturday, June 20 with all important cocktails at 6:00 PM and dinner at 7:00 PM.
The next weekend we kick off the racing season with the Cooper Cup Saturday June 27th. Recently retired Captain Steve Cooper will be trying to defend his title from last year. This race predates the Little Current Yacht Club and was run for the first time on Steve’s 40th birthday. From that first race came a discussion on the idea of the MacMan Race. From that came the need to create a yacht club to host the race. The rest, as they say, is history.
The Eaton Cup is coming up Saturday, July 18. Rob and OH will be working hard to recruit localand transient boaters and we will be sure to update everyone on the course for all races. We will post all updated race information on our website.
The final race of the year will be the Anchor Fall Classic Saturday, September 12. Last year saw an excellent turnout for this race and the return of several former members and skilled racers.
Annual Potluck & Dinghy Poker Run – Tuesday, August 18. Join Roy and Margaret Eaton for their annual Potluck Dinner at the Pavilion. That same day, we’ll run a Dinghy Poker Run for Cruisers’ Net fans and local boaters kicking off at 10:00 AM. Sponsored once again by our friends at Bousquet Realty. Roy and Margaret will be manning their dock checkpoint again and the theme will be to provide really good orange juice and cheap champagne mimosas for all participants. To sign up, let Roy know you’re coming and how many people will be joining for the BBQ lunch at the west pavilion starting at 1:00 PM. Our thanks to Bousquet Realty for their continued sponsorship of this event.
The Dave Naples Memorial Poker Run – Saturday, August 1. The Little Current Yacht Club is back on Haweater Weekend hosting a poker run and BBQ at the west pavilion. Dave always incorrectly referred to this annual event as Hawberry Weekend. I am thinking we will stay with that theme for the poker run. The plan is for the poker run to kick off late morning followed by a BBQ lunch for the participants. Participants will have a great view of the cardboard boat races taking place at the same time. The club is committed to donating 100% of the proceeds to the Little Current Lions Club.
Little Current Yacht Club is planning a full season of our Youth Sailing program again this summer. We will be in downtown Little Current on July 1st with the BIA Canada Day celebrations. Parents and students can stop by to find out more about the sailing program from our instructors, volunteers, and see one of our training boats.
This year all courses will run Monday to Friday. More information will be available here on our web-site and we plan to open up registration once we have confirmation of our Canada Summer jobs funding in early April.
We are taking the sailing school on the road to Gore Bay for the weeks of July 6th and 13th. Big thanks to the Gore Bay municipality and Manitoulin Transport for their ongoing support.
The week of July 20th we return to Low Island in Little Current. Monday July 27th we have our friends from Wikwemikong traveling to Low Island with a group of students. The week of August 3rd is the long weekend and we are not offering youth sailing, but may launch our adult sailing classes. More to come on that.
The weeks of August 10th & August 17th we will be accepting youth sailors from Little Current and Wikwemikong respectively. Our final week we will take the show on the road to run a sailing course in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario at the Algoma Sailing Club.
We are doing our best to hold the pricing per student to the same cost as the last few years. We will share more details as they become available but wanted to let everyone know the dates we are planning.
We would like to acknowledge the ongoing support from the municipality of NEMI. Come on summer.
